DenMat Facts

DenMat was founded in Santa Maria, California in 1974 by local dentist, Dr. Robert Ibsen. Dr. Ibsen was a USC graduate in both Optometry and Dentistry.
DenMat introduced the revolutionary Rembrandt Shade Modification System, allowing clinicians to easily treat discolored teeth. Never before had dentists had the ability to “paint” teeth to make every restoration a perfect match.
DenMat introduced Cerinate® porcelain veneers, enabling long-term cosmetic improvement of anterior teeth. Manufactured with DenMat’s own proprietary porcelain named, Cerinate, the thin veneers were bonded to teeth with no shots, drilling or removal of vital tooth structure. The strength of the porcelain along with DenMat’s own Ultra-Bond® and Tenure® bonding materials made for 20-plus years of clinically proven success that spearheaded the “thin veneer” and “minimally invasive dentistry” trend to come.
DenMat made available to dentists its Rembrandt Whitening Toothpaste. This patented toothpaste was proven in university clinical studies to remove, not just inhibit, the formation of plaque and tartar, a claim no other toothpaste could make.
Rembrandt Oral Care Products became available to consumers at retail. The product line included: Rembrandt Whitening Toothpaste in multiple formulas and flavors, alcohol-free mouthwashes and Rembrandt Dazzling BreathDrops. DenMat was also the pioneer of modern whitening systems with Rembrandt Lighten, the first dentist- dispensed bleaching system to carry the ADA Seal of Acceptance.
DenMat re-branded Cerinate veneers as Lumineers® and launched a major advertising campaign direct to consumers, driving patients into dental offices to get the smile they had always wanted. Lumineers became and is still the number one patient- requested veneer.
DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, a private equity investment affiliate of Credit Suisse, acquired a majority interest in DenMat and established a new management team.
During the nation’s economic downturn, Snap-On Smile® was introduced to consumers via television advertising with dentist referrals, providing a less expensive alternative means of improving one’s smile.
Centre Partners Management LLC and Mill Street Partners, a team of seasoned dental industry executives, acquired DenMat and promptly began making acquisitions of products to complement the DenMat core product line.
DenMat acquired the restorative and impression lines of Discus Dental, LLC, followed by PeriOptix,® Inc., a leading provider of magnification loupes and illumination systems.
DenMat moved its headquarters to Lompoc, California to accommodate the changing spatial needs of the company.
DenMat acquired the dental assets of Zila, Inc. Production of Zila products were transferred to Lompoc from Colorado and Arkansas. DenMat has since received drug distribution licenses from all 50 states to distribute its ATRIDOX® and Pro-DenRx oral hygiene products from its Lompoc headquarters.

Also in 2014, DenMat purchased the G. Hartzell and Son line of hand instruments. Hartzell® instruments continue to be manufactured at Hartzell’s Concord, California facility and shipped to customers from Lompoc.
